It has been a great start so far...the roads up the mountain and Castle Lake are being worked on and will be opening soon! The County has said that Everitt Memorial Highway up Mt. Shasta will be open at McBride Springs gate this Friday! Now is a great time to go on a Snowshoe Tour! The Five or Six Finger Avalanche located in the center lower part of the picture(coming down from the between Mt. Shasta and it's smaller cone Shastina) happened in 1995. It now makes for great ski runs. However, it is a long approach to get over there. Black Butte is a very prominent landmark. It has interesting geology, history and hiking during the summer and fall months. My book, "Mount Shasta Guide to Fun", has lots more information. Castle Lake Road is just starting to be plowed. It is said that it may be plowed to Methodist Camp over the weekend and to the lake by next week.
Have a great weekend! |
